Postdoctoral researcher at the Mathematical Institute of the University of Seville (Spain).
I am a group theorist studying braid groups, Artin groups and mapping class groups via Garside structures, combinatorial methods and geometric group theory.
From September 2020 to January 2021 I was an Associate Professor (Profesora Ayudante Doctora) at Universidad Complutense de Madrid. In 2019/2020 I was a Research Assistant at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, supervised by Alexandre Martin, thanks to a contract funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). In 2018/2019 I worked at University of Burgundy in Dijon with a postdoc contract, under the tutelage of Luis Paris.
I did my Ph.D. in Mathematics in University of Rennes 1 and University of Seville, under the supervision of Bert Wiest and Juan González-Meneses, and financed by a PhD contract of the University of Rennes 1 (UR1 President Scholarship).
I was awarded with the second prize for the best doctoral thesis of the University of Rennes in Mathematics, Sciences and Technology of Information and Communication, granted by Fondation Rennes 1. In 2020, I received the Vicent Caselles mathematical research award, granted by the Royal Spanish Mathematical Society and the BBVA Foundation.
To whom it may interest: Cumplido is my father's first surname and Cabello is my mother's first surname. However, in my articles I only use my first surname, mainly for two reasons. The first one is basically a practical reason. Sometimes, when having two surnames, both are written together with a middle dash. The second reason is motivated by the fact that, despite we are in the 21st century, in some countries women still take their identity from their husbands' family names (which men rarely do). This makes people ask themselves about my marital status or just assume it when they see two surnames, which should be completely irrelevant in the academic world. On the other hand, my mother matters (a lot) and I don't want to waive her surname in the other aspects of my life. Our society needs to prevent from hiding women's identity or making it dependent on their partners'.
